Why replace lead weights? Prevents injuries to horses: Lead weights are often "ill-fitted" under a race saddle that is also weighted to capacity. The lead weights focus the force of the race weight onto the horse's withers and back. Lead weights can restrict shoulder movement, produce a biased "way of going," and cause injury to the muscles in direct contact with the weights. Such problems can cause horses to lose races, become injured, or both. Reduces health hazards to workers: Lead has long been established as a highly toxic substance. Exposure to lead can produce a wide range of adverse health effects. BEST PAD™ Race Weight pads are the solution to replace lead weights.
What weights are available? BEST PAD™ Race Weight pads are available from 1 to 25 pounds; the pad’s weight is embossed in white on the black surface. BEST PAD Race Weight pads are also available in kilogram sizes; please see our International Products for more information. Can Race Weight Pads be personalized? Each BEST PAD™ is imprinted with our telephone number and web address. Other optional features for all BEST PAD™ products include deluxe white lettering or raised black lettering to personalize and identify your pads. Use your name or initials or your horse's name. We have created a Best Pad™ Race Weight Pad Racetrack Starter Set with suggested quantities and weights based on order histories from our current racetrack customers. Please note that your specific needs may vary since the quantities previously purchased by racetrack are being used in conjunction with jockey/valet/trainer-owned Best Pad™ Race Weight Pads, Flex-Weights and lead weights in pouches and jockeys’ saddles.
Best Pad™ Flex-Weight is a flexible, high-density polymer that replaces lead saddle weights. Bar-shaped (as pictured) for pouches, Best Pad™ Flex-Weight provides comfortable handicap weight without lead. They are available in four weight increments: ¼ pound, ½ pound, ¾ pound and 1 pound. Best Pad™ Flex-Weight is also available in custom shapes. This product contains no lead. Please call for a quote.
